Summer 2008

Summer 2008

At the beginning of the Summer 2008 dig season, the swim tank was still essentially filled to the top. This view from the northeast corner shows the shallow pit that was uncovered during the Spring 2008 Field Methodologies course at Stanford University.

Swim tank terrace

During the first few weeks of the Summer 2009 dig, large debris was being left in place to try to determine any depositional patterns in the dumping of materials.

weighing rubble

Weighing large pieces of sandstone, concrete, and other building rubble provided many challenges to the teams working in the swim tank.

Swim Tank - Week 3

This view from the southeast corner of the swim tank, prior to the removal of rubble from top and middle terraces, shows that over half of the material in the tank has been removed.

SW swim tank

Team members worked carefully to remove dirt from around large pieces of rubble. All dirt removed from the swim tank has been sifted and sorted for artifacts.

Feature form

Information about features and artifacts is carefully recorded. Artifacts are bagged, washed, sorted, and catalogued at the dig site.
